Sets of generators blocking all generators in finite classical polar spaces

We introduce generator blocking sets of finite classical polar spaces. These sets are a generalisation of maximal partial spreads. We prove a characterization of these minimal sets of the polar spaces Q(2n, q), Q(2n + 1, q) and H(2n, q), in terms of cones with vertex a subspace contained in the polar space and with base a generator blocking set in a polar space of rank 2. keywords: partial spre...

Blocking sets of H(n, q2) with respect to generators

We construct minimal blocking sets with respect to generators on the Hermitian surfaces H(n, q) when n and q are both odd. A blocking set arises from q + 1 quadrics in PG(n, q) whose polarities commute with a unitary polarity, constructed from the union of Baer sub-quadrics with the common intersections deleted.

Closed Sets and Generators in Ternary Hamming Spaces 1

The n-dimensional ternary Hamming space is Tn, where T = f0; 1; 2g. Three points in Tn form a line if they have in common excactly n 1 components. A subset of Tn is closed if, whenever it contains two points of a line, it contains also the third one. A generator is a set, whose closure is Tn. In this paper, we investigate several properties of closed sets and generators. Two alternative proofs ...
